Walking from Valparaiso to Viño del Mar

Diana (from Argentina) and I decided to walk from Valparaíso to Viña del Mar today. Most people take the bus, but the idea of walking for a couple hours along the Pacific coast was very appealing and probably not a common activity for tourists. Along the way, there were many interesting sites including the slowest train in the world, a couple of sea lions and many pelicans, a derelict Rotary Club monument which may have been the victim of an earthquake, a few very interesting buildings, ships, love grafitti, love arrangements of rocks, a Sheraton hotel with a beautiful view and helpful staff, dos fuentes, y muchos porteñas and porteños. Oh, and one Rapa Nui.

After spending a little while in Viña del Mar, I quickly decided the beaches and large collection of hotels paled in comparison to the cultural feel of Valparaíso with its many hills and painted murals. Viña del Mar, you can see anywhere and anytime, but Valparaíso is unique and full of interesting corners and stairs.

Between walking to Viña del Mar and later walks around Valparaíso , I probably clocked a good 15 kilometres today which should help with my goal of losing a little weight on this trip.Supper was an empanada con pollo, queso y verduras for the very reasonable price of $1.000 (which is about $2 Canadian.
