Panama Canal

Okay, so I am in Panama, so it is obligatory to go see the Panama Canal, right. I don’t want to sound too negative, so let me tell you how nice the locks in Sault Ste. Marie are … well, maybe later.

The main tourist trap of the Panama Canal is the Miraflores Locks which is one of three sets of locks on the Panama canal. There is a large visitor center, but it only offers a very limited view of the locks. The visitor center itself is very nice with a multi-level interpretive center and a 3D movie and an interpreter who talks a lot over the P.A. system, but if you go the Panama Canal, you go to see ships going through the locks…. am I right?

The big win of the day was that I didn’t waste a lot of money to get there. The visitor center itself was $15, but I managed to find a bus that went to the general area, so I only spent $0.25 each way for transportation (taken from my card that I bought the previous day).

So, in conclusion, been there, done that.
