On Sundays in Buenos Aires, there is a really big street market from the Plaza de Mayo down Defensa and spilling into some side streets. Of course, I had to go check it out. It was certainly big, and there were some interesting things there, but since I will be back in Buenos Aires at a future date, I decided to look only. I did stop for a barbecued sausage and a freshly squeezed orange juice which together cost under $10. So, what did I find interesting? Well, for starters, there was a great deal of art work, most of which was not overly appealing to me, but there was some that may be making the trip home with me later in March. There were several items that I probably wouldn’t be allowed to bring into Canada due to the blades being too long or the species of wood too endangered, but maybe some pottery? If you ever get to Buenos Aires, plan to be here on a Sunday, so you can check out the Sunday market.
Now for a couple more tips:
1. This one I learned from a Dutch traveler and got to experience first hand later on… when you withdraw money from an atm in Buenos Aires, the atm imposes a fee of about $7, so plan your withdrawals wisely!
2. Booking.com is by far the best website I have ever used for booking accommodations. Enough said.
And finally, this fantastic specimen of a Ficus macrophylla can be found in Plaza San Martin.
