Sausage Fest and Broads

I’m sure the title of this post could be misconstrued as two completely different things, so let me elucidate.

First, the sausage fest was officially called the Battle of the Bangers, but most people I encountered called it the sausage fest. Essentially, there were six sausage makers set up in a horse shoe pattern, cooking and serving samples of one of their sausages. The public was invited to sample all of the sausages and vote for their favourite.

This was also an opportunity for me to visit with one of my second cousins who I had seen about 35 years ago, but really only knew from Facebook in recent times. He brought along his son who was extremely thorough in deciding which sausage got his vote. In the end, the winner was the one who cooked their sausages over charcoal. I had actually picked a different one to get my vote, but the charcoal one was good as well. My third choice would have been the fruity blood sausage. There was also a beef sausage, one that gave me the impression of being mass produced and a smoked sausage. It was certainly a great place to have lunch.

Later that day, we were taken to the Norfolk Broads and a couple other places by a different cousin of my mother (which would make her my cousin once removed). The Norfolk Broads are old peat bogs that were mined for their fuel by medieval people and naturally flooded into a series of lakes and rivers that cover an expanse of 303 sq. km. From what I could see, they are important recreational and natural areas that are home to many boats and birds alike.

After a wonderful day, it was again great to sit down to a different local beer and enjoy some great conversation.
